TrafoStick™ Advanced Multi-Parameter Monitoring Device

TrafoStick™

Transformers are the cornerstone of power systems. Faults occurring in transformers, which serve as the grid connection point for numerous end-users, facilities of various sizes, or power plants, can lead to severe outages and production losses. The vast majority of these faults are preventable issues that develop over time.

Thanks to its unique functions and powerful sensors, TrafoStick™ can continuously calculate the transformer oil’s dielectric strength, oil temperature, and moisture level, unaffected by ambient conditions. This capability allows the fault development process to be detected and intervened before a failure actually occurs.

This, in turn, prevents production losses associated with faults and avoids additional costs. Automatic and real-time monitoring of the dielectric strength of transformers makes it possible to monitor the condition of the transformer, recognize trends and, above all, take timely measures to improve the reliability of the transformer and possibly the entire system.

TrafoStick™ enables the continuous monitoring of the most critical parameters of transformers. The information gained by tracking these parameters makes it possible to estimate the remaining life of transformers—one of the most critical components of power systems—and to create maintenance plans. The automatic and real-time monitoring of a transformer’s dielectric strength allows for monitoring the transformer’s condition, recognizing trends, and, most importantly, enabling timely measures to improve the reliability of the transformer and potentially the entire system.

TrafoStick™ was developed as a robust and compact online sensor specifically for use in power transformers. Components suitable for contact with transformer oil were used within TrafoStick™ to withstand the harsh conditions and electrical effects that may be encountered at the installation point.

The underlying technology of TrafoStick™ is shaped within an intelligent deep learning algorithm. To enable TrafoStick™ to achieve its consistently accurate results today, oil samples taken from more than 3,500 transformers across various parts of Europe were extensively analyzed during years of meticulous development, testing, and calibration processes. The developed algorithm continuously monitors the measured water content (Wc), total acid number (TAN), and temperature (T) values, evaluating this data within the compact unit’s embedded system.

TrafoStick™: Model Options to Suit Your Needs

TrafoStick™ stands out with its multiple model options developed to offer the most suitable and cost-effective solutions for the needs of different projects. Thanks to models with varying capabilities, it provides a wide range of use, from applications where only specific parameters need to be monitored, to comprehensive systems requiring the tracking of oil pressure, breakdown voltage (BDV), and dissolved gas analysis. This approach offers a cost advantage in small-scale projects while providing high reliability and comprehensive data collection opportunities in large-scale applications. The flexible structure of TrafoStick™ allows for quick adaptation to field conditions and enables users to obtain optimum solutions that add value to their projects.

TrafoStick™: Model Options to Suit Your Needs

TrafoStick™ is an innovative sensor developed to improve operational safety and maintenance processes in transformers. This device, which can be directly integrated onto the transformer via a fixed mounting option, offers the capability to instantly monitor parameters critical to transformer health, such as temperature, relative humidity, pressure, breakdown voltage (BDV), dissolved hydrogen (H₂), and carbon monoxide (CO).

TrafoStick™ is effective not only in fixed systems but also in mobile applications. Especially during transformer oil treatment processes, it provides reliable data on the oil’s current condition, allowing the verification of these processes. This feature makes it stand out as a valuable monitoring and control component in oil treatment systems.

With its compatibility with both fixed and mobile systems, TrafoStick™ contributes to reducing maintenance costs, early fault detection, and increasing operational continuity
